Although she had a fruitful year, Trần Thị Thanh Thúy did not qualify for the final shortlist of this esteemed award.
Nomination list National Outstanding Athlete of 2025 Announced by the Vietnam Department of Sports, the list did not include any names from volleyball. This has attracted attention given that Vietnamese women's volleyball has just had a successful year at regional and continental levels.
In 2025, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, led by coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt, achieved many positive results. The team won the AVC Nations Cup 2025 for the third consecutive year, claimed the title in the second leg of the SEA V.League 2025 with a historic victory over Thailand, participated in the 2025 World Championship, and earned the silver medal at the 33rd SEA Games recently held in Thailand. The team also reached its highest-ever world ranking at 22nd place.
However, since volleyball is a team sport, selecting an individual who truly stands out for the Outstanding Athlete award is always challenging. Trần Thị Thanh Thúy is the most prominent name; however, considering individual achievements in 2025, the main attacker from Bình Dương province was somewhat at a disadvantage compared to representatives from other sports.
The "4T" did not win the national championship with VTV Bình Điền Long An due to playing in Japan, failed to secure a historic gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games, and did not earn a medal at the World Championship. The most notable titles of the captain of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team are runner-up at the AVC Champions League 2025 and champion of the AVC Nations Cup 2025.
Previously, in 2024, Nguyễn Thị Bích Tuyền ranked in the top 10 outstanding national athletes and placed second overall. In the same year, coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt led the list of outstanding coaches, and the Vietnamese women's volleyball team was honored as the team of the year.
According to the plan, the voting for the 2025 Outstanding National Athletes and Coaches will conclude at the end of December 30.
