On the afternoon of December 28, as part of round 20 of the Japan National Volleyball Championship (SV League), the Gunma Green Wings club achieved a nail-biting 3-2 win against the formidable Saitama Ageo Medics.
The match unfolded with intense back-and-forth action, accurately reflecting the strength of both teams who are fiercely competing in the top group on the standings.
A highlight of Gunma Green Wings’ gameplay in this match was the effective partnership between the Polish opposite hitter and the spiker Trần Thị Thanh Thúy. While the Polish foreign player scored up to 40 points with a 47% efficiency, Thanh Thúy also contributed a crucial 17 points.
Notably, the Vietnamese outside hitter’s attack efficiency reached 45.5%, an impressive figure comparable to the top stars in the league.
This achievement is even more remarkable considering Thanh Thúy had just returned to Japan after the SEA Games 33 campaign without any rest period during the season like her teammates.
The consistency of Thanh Thúy is clearly demonstrated through professional statistics. Although she has only played 16 matches due to national duty and injury treatment—3 to 4 fewer than her rivals—she still accumulated a total of 263 points, ranking 17th among the top scorers in the league.
The influence of the 1997-born spiker has been a key factor in helping Gunma Green Wings leap from last place (14/14) last season to 5th place this year.
With her outstanding and stable performance, Thanh Thúy has officially been named by the SV League organizers among the 28 elite players invited to participate in the "All Stars Games" event on January 31.
