The Indonesian Volleyball Federation (PBVSI) has officially announced the replacement of the head coach for the national men's volleyball team after the team failed to successfully defend their gold medal at SEA Games 2025.
This is the first time after three consecutive SEA Games dominating this event that Indonesia’s men's volleyball team has had to accept second place.
PBVSI President Imam Sudjarwo confirmed that the coaching staff change is part of a comprehensive evaluation of the team’s strength and a long-term development plan. Importantly, Imam stressed that this decision was not due to a lack of effort or poor performance by the players but intended to introduce new tactics and coaching ideas.
"We are carrying out a comprehensive assessment and I have decided to change the coach soon. Starting this year, I decided to replace the coach after the SEA Games and immediately terminated the contract," Imam said in Jakarta on Monday.

According to PBVSI’s president, the plan was prepared early as the federation aims to invite a Brazilian coach to lead the Indonesian men's team from 2026. This strategist is expected to bring a new coaching formula suitable for the goal of conquering bigger competitions in the region and continent.
"Our evaluation shows that next year, the team will be led by a new coach from Brazil. This means the 2026 national team will apply a completely new coaching model based on the Brazilian volleyball style," Imam said.
At SEA Games 2025, Indonesia’s men's volleyball team won the silver medal after a heartbreaking 2-3 defeat to host Thailand in the final at Hua Mak Arena (Bangkok) on the evening of December 19. The match was extremely tense and balanced, with both teams continuously fighting for every point.
Imam believes this loss does not reflect a difference in skill between the two teams, as Indonesia only lost by a very narrow margin in the deciding set.
