The achievements of Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Hoa and Trần Thị Thanh Thúy in foreign clubs have inspired confidence among Vietnamese female volleyball players to pursue opportunities overseas.
Unlike men's football, most Vietnamese female volleyball athletes have found great success abroad, with role models like Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Hoa and Trần Thị Thanh Thúy boosting the confidence of players competing internationally. Below are four outstanding Vietnamese female volleyball players who have made, are making, or will make their mark in foreign teams.
Without a doubt, Trần Thị Thanh Thúy is the most successful Vietnamese female volleyball player to compete internationally in history. She currently plays for Gunma Green Wings in Japan's national league; previously, she played for Bangkok Glass (Thailand), Attack Line (Chinese Taipei), Denso Airybees and PFU BlueCats (Japan), Kuzeyboru (Turkey), and Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk (Indonesia).
Among these, Thanh Thúy's time in Japan stands out the most. The "4T" was a vital member of PFU BlueCats and is now the leading attacker for Gunma, both under coach Masayasu Sakamoto's guidance.
Trần Thị Bích Thủy is the clearest example proving that going abroad significantly elevates and develops professional skills. At 18 years old, she joined Air Force (Thailand) and immediately won the Best Middle Blocker award, playing alongside the legendary Pleumjit Thinkaow from the "Land of Smiles."
After playing only domestically for a while, Bích Thủy made her second international move to South Korea’s GS Caltex Seoul Kixx for the 2024-2025 season. Under coach Lee Young-taek, her blocking and anticipation skills improved greatly, transforming her into the most complete and best middle blocker currently in Vietnam.
Currently, Bích Thủy plays for Okayama Seagulls (Japan) and has made notable impressions.
After the 2025 national league season ended, Lý Thị Luyến went to Mongolia to play for Hobby Ace on loan. This is Luyến’s first foreign club; previously, she attended tryouts for the South Korean national league with Bích Thủy and Trần Tú Linh but was not selected by any team.
Standing at an impressive 1.95 meters, Luyến strengthens Hobby Ace’s blocking line and helps the team achieve positive results in the current Mongolian national league season.
One of Vietnam’s top female volleyball attackers, Vi Thị Như Quỳnh, is about to embark on her first overseas stint with Medan Falcons in Indonesia’s national league. On December 20, Như Quỳnh arrived in Indonesia to join the team and get acquainted with her new teammates before the season officially begins.
Here, Vi Quỳnh will team up with the Philippines national middle blocker Dell Palomata. This Southeast Asian foreign duo is expected to help Falcons improve their performance in the upcoming season.
