Former Wimbledon finalist Raonic has officially announced his retirement!

How long has it been since you last saw Raonic play on court? It’s been a year and a half! This former top 3 male player last competed on the tour at the Paris Olympics in July 2024, where he lost a tough three-set match in the first round to Koepfer. Since then, Raonic has been sidelined indefinitely.

On January 12, 2026, Beijing time, Raonic announced his official retirement on his personal social media: “I feel the time has come for me to retire from professional tennis. You know this day will come, but somehow you never feel ready because, honestly, tennis has been my lifelong passion.”

Born on December 27, 1990, in Podgorica, Montenegro, Raonic immigrated to Canada at age three and began playing tennis at eight. He turned professional in 2008.

Raonic gradually made breakthroughs in his career afterward. In March 2009, he won his first ITF Futures title in Canada. By August that year, ranked outside the top 600, he qualified for the main draw at the Rogers Cup.

In the 2010 season, Raonic established himself on the tour, reaching his first ATP quarterfinal at the Kuala Lumpur Open. However, his real breakthrough came in 2011, when he reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam and made a final at a 500-level event. His title win at the San Jose Open made him the first player born in the 1990s to claim an ATP singles championship.

That incredible 2011 season also saw Raonic break into the top 30 for the first time, earning him the ATP Newcomer of the Year award. His ranking jumped from 156 at the start of the year to 31 by the end, with a season record of 31 wins and 19 losses.

Raonic continued to progress steadily, entering the top 15 in 2012, reaching his first Masters final and breaking into the top 10 in 2013, and winning his first 500-level title while finishing the year ranked eighth in 2014.

After battling injuries, Raonic reached new heights in 2016. He became the first player born in the 1990s to reach a Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon, defeating Federer in the Brisbane final and Wimbledon semifinals. His outstanding season earned him the year-end world No. 3 ranking.

Looking at Raonic’s career achievements, he has won eight singles titles, mostly at the 250 level, with only one 500-level title at Washington in 2014. He also finished runner-up 15 times, including at prestigious events like Wimbledon, the Rogers Cup, the Paris Masters, and Indian Wells.
