On January 11th Beijing time, the Brisbane tournament held the finals for the WTA 500 and ATP 250 events. Ultimately, Sabalenka triumphed over Kostyuk 6-4, 6-3 to retain her Brisbane women’s singles crown; Medvedev beat Brandon Nakashima 6-2, 7-6(1) to secure the men’s singles title.

On the WTA side, Sabalenka has now extended her winning streak in Brisbane to ten matches. She started the new season by winning the title without dropping a set, earning the 22nd trophy of her career and demonstrating the strength of the world No. 1. Although Kostyuk did not claim the Brisbane title, her performance this week was commendable: she defeated three top-10 players in a row (Anisimova, Andreyeva, Pegula) and reached her first final of 2024. Next week, she will return to the top 20 rankings.

On the ATP side, Medvedev faced off against Brandon Nakashima. In the first set, Medvedev showed powerful offense and a commanding serve to take the set decisively. The second set featured a thrilling battle, with both players evenly matched and the score reaching 6-6. Ultimately, Medvedev’s superior skill won him the tiebreak, sealing the match 6-2, 7-6(1) and securing the Brisbane title. This marks Medvedev’s 22nd career trophy and extends his 2026 record to 5-0.
