ATP Brisbane: Medvedev defeats Mickelson, Nakashima and Brandon win the American derby

On January 10, 2026, the ATP250 Brisbane men's singles semifinals concluded. Top seed Medvedev defeated American Mickelson 6-4, 6-2, securing his fourth consecutive win of the new season and reaching the final.

Medvedev is the sole non-American among the four semifinalists in this tournament. He maintained an undefeated record against Mickelson from their two matches last year, not losing a single set. In this match, after being broken early, Medvedev quickly regained composure, winning four consecutive games to turn the match around and take the first set 6-4. In the second set, Mickelson had multiple break point opportunities on Medvedev’s serve but failed to convert any, and Medvedev closed out the set 6-2 to advance confidently to the final.

In the final, Medvedev will face Brandon Nakashima, who defeated compatriot Kovalecvic in a 1 hour 44 minute battle, winning 7-6(4), 6-4. Nakashima will aim for his second career ATP tour singles title, having previously won his first at the 2022 ATP San Diego event. Medvedev and Nakashima have met twice before, with Medvedev winning both times, although their most recent match last year went to three sets. The final is scheduled to start at 16:30 Beijing time on January 11.

In the men's doubles semifinals, top seeds Cash and Grabspr defeated Mahachi and Wotzel 6-3, 6-3, while third seeds Cabral and Midler narrowly beat sixth seeds Doumbia and Lebre 7-6(3), 4-6, 10-7. These pairs will compete for the championship tomorrow.
