On Wednesday at the Brisbane International, Daniel Medvedev maintained his commanding performance against Frances Tiafoe, securing an easy win to reach the quarterfinals of his 90th tour-level tournament.

According to Infosys ATP statistics, Medvedev did not face a single break point throughout the match and achieved an impressive 91% first-serve win rate (31 out of 34), defeating his opponent 6-3, 6-2 in just 61 minutes.
As the top seed of the tournament, Medvedev is chasing his 22nd career tour title this week. He holds a dominant 6-1 head-to-head record against Tiafoe, with all seven encounters taking place on hard courts.
“The court is very fast here, so you need to deliver high-quality serves, and I’m pleased with my serving today,” Medvedev said. “I think I played much better than in the first round, didn’t give him any break opportunities, which put a lot of pressure on him. I seized some key chances on his serve, and that was enough for today’s match.”
Medvedev has fond memories of Brisbane, having reached the final in his only previous appearance in 2019. He has not dropped a set in his first two matches of the 2026 season and will next face Kamil Majchrzak in the quarterfinals. The Polish player saved three match points to edge Riley Opelka 6-7(2), 7-6(7), 7-6(8).
In another all-American showdown, friends competed against each other. The 21-year-old Mickelson defeated fellow countryman Reiner Tien 6-4, 6-2. They trained together as juniors, and Mickelson holds the upper hand in their rivalry, leading 3-1 against the new ATP Finals champion.
Mickelson will face another American, Korda, in the quarterfinals. Korda’s advancement was dramatic as defending champion Jiri Lehecka retired due to an ankle injury while Korda was leading 6-3, 1-2.
Korda has shown strong performances in Australia before, reaching the Adelaide final twice in 2023 and 2025 and making it to the Australian Open quarterfinals in 2023.
