U23 Vietnam narrowly defeated UAE, securing a spot in the 2026 U23 Asian Championship semifinals.

At the quarterfinal kickoff, Coach Kim Sang Sik’s team started confidently, establishing a solid game plan and effectively controlling the midfield. After initial probing, U23 Vietnam gradually increased pressure on U23 UAE’s goal.

In the 39th minute, the deadlock was broken. From a fast run down the left wing by Đình Bắc, the young striker delivered a precise cross for Lê Phát to tap in close range, putting U23 Vietnam ahead. However, the red team’s lead lasted only briefly. Three minutes later, U23 UAE equalized 1-1 when Junior Ndiaye capitalized on a rebound after a shot hit the crossbar, heading the ball in accurately.

In the 62nd minute, Đình Bắc made a technical impact again with a skillful back-header, increasing the score to 2-1 and putting U23 Vietnam back in front. Nevertheless, Vietnam’s defense still faced challenges against the opponent’s aerial threats. In the 68th minute, Al Menhali scored a sharp header, leveling the match at 2-2.

The two teams were tied after 90 minutes, forcing extra time. Despite fatigue slowing the pace, U23 Vietnam showed focus, energy, and strong determination. The turning point came in the 101st minute when Minh Phúc made a decisive move inside the box, finishing cleanly to put U23 Vietnam ahead 3-2.
