Real Madrid has two top champion coaches lined up for the summer managerial change, while Zidane’s ambition is to become the head coach of the French national team.

Alonso has been sacked by Real Madrid, and interim manager Aveloa’s first game ended in a major setback, with Real suffering a 2-3 defeat to Albacete, a team near the bottom of the Segunda División, thus missing out on the Copa del Rey last eight. This confirms that Aveloa is merely a stopgap, and Florentino needs to secure a new title-winning coach before the season concludes.

According to the latest report from Sky Sports Germany, Zidane is no longer the ideal candidate for Real Madrid’s new coach. Although fans wish for him, Zidane’s goal is clear: to replace Deschamps as France’s head coach after the World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Real’s two main candidates this summer are both championship-winning coaches: former Premier League rivals Klopp and Maresca.

Klopp currently serves as the global sporting director for the Red Bull group. Although his duties are lighter and closer to home, his core role remains coaching, and leading a team to titles is his passion. Therefore, Klopp will return when the timing is right. This means if Real convinces Klopp to take charge, they must grant him appropriate authority, ensuring players no longer dominate the coach — something Klopp’s personality would never accept otherwise.

Besides Klopp, recently dismissed Chelsea coach Maresca is also a candidate for Real Madrid’s managerial position. Last season, Maresca led Chelsea to win the Europa Conference League and the Club World Cup, proving his coaching ability. Both Klopp and Maresca are title-winning managers skilled in rapid counter-attacking tactics, which fit well with Real Madrid’s current squad setup.

In my personal opinion, the real issue at Real Madrid lies with Florentino. The decision not to sign Mbappé marked the start of the club’s decline. Neither Klopp nor Maresca tolerate special treatment for players; they require forwards to participate in defense from the outset. Hence, the Real Madrid coaching role is difficult to fill, and no smart coach will take it without Florentino relinquishing some control. Alonso’s experience is a warning: his tactical ideas could never be fully implemented at Real.
