There has been no update from the Court of Arbitration for Sport concerning the Malaysian Football Association's appeal.
The international sports court has confirmed receipt of the Malaysian Football Association’s appeal against FIFA’s sanctions, however, Malaysian football fans remain unaware of when the decision will be announced. At present, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is reviewing the procedural schedule for this appeal.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is also hoping that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will issue a ruling before March 31 to ensure the smooth conduct of the 2027 Asian Cup draw ceremony.
Meanwhile, Malaysian fans are closely monitoring the CAS online portal for updates on this matter. In an email response to Timesport, CAS communications officer Vanessa Tracey confirmed that the FAM appeal process is underway administratively, but cautioned that expectations should remain realistic.
"CAS received FAM’s appeal against FIFA on December 5, 2025. The procedural schedule for this matter will be established soon," she stated.
When asked whether CAS’s decision could be delivered before Malaysia’s final Asian Cup qualifying match against Vietnam in Hanoi on March 31, she replied: "At this time, it is neither guaranteed nor ruled out that a final decision will be made by the end of March."
AFC wants to confirm the disciplinary status of Malaysia and the seven players before proceeding with the draw for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
FIFA has fined FAM 350,000 Swiss francs (1.8 million Malaysian ringgit) and imposed a 12-month suspension on each of the seven players (Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, Hector Hevel, Gabriel Palmero, Imanol Machuca, Rodrigo Holgado, and Facundo Garces), along with a 2,000 Swiss franc fine.
