The incident happened only a few hours following the 1-2 loss against Brighton in the FA Cup third round, making the mood at Old Trafford even more somber.
Manchester United continues to face turbulent times when captain Bruno Fernandes’ social media account on X was unexpectedly hacked, leading to a series of offensive posts that sparked intense controversy among fans.
Reports show that Bruno Fernandes’ X account, with over 4.5 million followers, posted numerous strange contents completely out of character for the Manchester United captain. The account shared an image of the scoreboard at Anfield during MU’s 0-7 defeat to Liverpool.
It didn’t stop there; the account continued to post boastful and provocative statements accompanied by money bag emojis. More worryingly, several offensive and insulting posts targeted female player Alisha Lehmann and social media star KSI, causing widespread outrage on X.
The focal point of the incident was the most interacted post, which called for the removal of INEOS from Manchester United. INEOS is a corporation owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, currently holding a minority stake and responsible for managing football operations at the club. Amid ongoing instability both on the pitch and at the board level, this message fueled further speculation and doubts about internal conflicts.
Notably, Fernandes’ account even replied to an apology post from young talent Shea Lacey, who was recently sent off in the match against Brighton. The brief, joking reply upset many, as it was highly inappropriate given the sensitive context.
Following strong backlash from fans, Manchester United’s official account quickly confirmed that Bruno Fernandes’ X account had been hacked and urged supporters not to engage with any posts or messages from his profile. However, the hacker even reposted this announcement, continuing to mock and upload provocative content.
