Following Manchester United’s FA Cup defeat by Brighton, captain Bruno Fernandes’ social media account sent out a startling message criticizing owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe: "Down with Ineos!"

Bruno seldom engages on social media; his previous post was back in October marking his 300th club appearance. Manchester United officially alerted fans that his account had been compromised and to ignore any content posted there.
Hackers used Bruno’s account, which has 4.5 million followers, to share various random messages, including promoting cryptocurrencies and boldly stating: "This is why I need a higher salary."
The account messaged adult star Bonnie Blue, England’s cricket team, and world darts champion Luke Littler, even posting an image of Manchester United’s 0-7 humiliation against Liverpool. The quick attack on Ratcliffe after the FA Cup shows the hacker is clearly a football fan!
Manchester United’s official account released a statement saying: "Bruno’s account was hacked, and fans should not engage with any posts or direct messages."

Although the outburst against Ratcliffe was fake, Manchester United teammates feel their captain Bruno has had enough of the club’s poor state and might transfer this summer. After the World Cup this summer, the 31-year-old Portuguese midfielder will consider his future, with a change of scenery likely.
Last year, Bruno admitted that when three Saudi Arabian clubs approached him, it was Rúben Amorim who persuaded him to stay. Reportedly, Manchester United was willing to sell Bruno at the time, which upset him, but coach Amorim insisted on keeping him, and ultimately Bruno declined a multi-million-pound contract from the oil-rich clubs.
Now, after representing Portugal at the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico, Bruno will contemplate his next move. Some Manchester United players believe he is already leaning towards leaving, and Amorim’s dismissal will solidify his decision.
A source told The Sun: "The dressing room feels Bruno has had enough of Manchester United’s situation, and honestly, they wouldn’t blame him. Since joining, he has always given his all and been one of the team’s best players."

An insider explained: "They think the new owner’s management style has disappointed him further, and Amorim’s departure was the final straw. He’s not the type to move to Saudi for money because he’s a true football lover. Nobody doubts that from the moment he joined United, he always gave 100% on the pitch. Nobody wants him to leave, but if he decides to go, his teammates will fully understand."
Bruno has a close relationship with Amorim and his coaching staff. Interim coach Darren Fletcher publicly admitted that Amorim’s sacking deeply disappointed Bruno. "Like everyone else, Bruno was upset. He wants to succeed with every coach he works with, and whenever one leaves the club, Bruno feels disappointed; and I know he had a good relationship with Rúben," Fletcher said.
The day after Amorim’s dismissal was announced, witnesses saw Bruno leaving a Cheshire café with Carlos Fernandes, a member of Amorim’s coaching team who was also dismissed by Manchester United.
If by this summer Bruno feels unwanted or unappreciated at Manchester United, and if offers come from clubs like Al Hilal, Al Nassr, or Al Ittihad as before, it will be hard to guarantee that Amorim’s successor has the same willingness or ability to convince him to stay. The choice of new head coach could decisively influence Bruno’s future.

Bruno Fernandes joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in 2020 and is currently under contract until 2027. However, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, his contract includes a €60 million release clause that only foreign clubs can activate. "Bruno’s contract has a release clause, but Premier League clubs cannot trigger it; only overseas teams can. The clause is just over €60 million. Saudi clubs remain very interested in Bruno, but it all depends on the player," Romano revealed.
