Following an extended time off because of injury, forward Nguyễn Công Phượng has at last brought joyful news to fans and Trường Tươi Đồng Nai Club as he officially resumed training and competing with his team.
During the recent training camp in the northern region, Trường Tươi Đồng Nai Club had a packed schedule of friendly matches against opponents like Hải Phòng, Quảng Ninh, and Xuân Thiện Phú Thọ. The results were encouraging, with coach Nguyễn Việt Thắng’s team winning all three matches, including a notable 5-3 victory on Hải Phòng’s home ground.
The most remarkable highlight of the training camp was Công Phượng’s comeback. Since the start of the 2025/26 season, the 1995-born striker had not appeared in any official matches due to not yet reaching full fitness. His ability to train and participate continuously in friendly matches is seen as a positive sign that his recovery is progressing well.
In the final friendly match against Xuân Thiện Phú Thọ on the afternoon of December 30th, coach Nguyễn Việt Thắng once again gave Công Phượng the opportunity to play. Although he did not make a significant impact on the field and missed a penalty kick, Đồng Nai still comfortably won 2-0 thanks to a brace by foreign player Alex Sandro.
Regarding his player’s condition, coach Nguyễn Việt Thắng stated: “During the recent training camp, Công Phượng returned and performed very well. Although he didn’t score in the three friendly matches in the North, his presence was a great morale booster for the team. We hope that Công Phượng’s participation will strengthen Đồng Nai’s squad in the upcoming phase of the season.”
Not only contributing on the field, Công Phượng’s comeback also brings strong confidence to Đồng Nai’s fans, who have been waiting for him since the start of the season. With the promotion race becoming increasingly intense, having an experienced player like Công Phượng, who has competed at high levels both domestically and internationally, is considered a significant advantage.
According to the schedule, the 2025/26 National First Division will resume on January 30th after a break of more than two months. In round 8, Trường Tươi Đồng Nai Club will host Sanna Khánh Hòa at home. Unless there are changes, this match is likely to mark Công Phượng’s official return to play for Đồng Nai in a truly competitive game.
