Futsal Planet surprisingly listed the Vietnam women's futsal team as one of the top 4 nominees for the best women's futsal team globally in 2025.
The Vietnam women's futsal team concluded the 33rd SEA Games by winning a historic Gold Medal – The first-ever gold medal for Vietnam's women's futsal at a Southeast Asian Games. This is the greatest achievement for Coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng and his team in 2025, a year without many major tournaments.
Previously, the Vietnam women's futsal team only reached the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC Women's Futsal Championship, losing to Japan and missing out on their first-ever FIFA Futsal World Cup appearance. Therefore, their nomination among the top 4 best women's futsal teams globally in 2025 by Futsal Planet is quite a surprise.
Alongside Vietnam, the other three nominated women's futsal teams are Colombia, Morocco, and Poland. It is quite unexpected that Brazil, the reigning Women's Futsal World Cup champions, and Portugal, the runners-up, were not nominated. The exact criteria used by Futsal Planet for this award remain unclear.
The Vietnam women's futsal team is also the only representative from Vietnam nominated by Futsal Planet. The magazine also presents other awards such as best men's futsal team, best goalkeeper, best coach, best male player, best female player, best young male player, and best young female player of the year.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Vietnam women's futsal team has been nominated by Futsal Planet. With impressive results in 2024, the Vietnam women's futsal team successfully entered the TOP 10 National Women's Futsal Teams, standing alongside leading teams worldwide such as Brazil, Iran, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Uzbekistan, Finland, U20 Colombia, and New Zealand. This is the first time a Vietnamese futsal team has achieved this honor at the annual Futsal Planet awards, one of the most prestigious organizations in the futsal world.
In 2024, the Vietnam women's futsal team won two championships, including the Southeast Asian championship and the Thailand International Futsal tournament, along with a silver medal at an international competition in China. These accomplishments have firmly established the team’s presence on the global futsal map.
