Chelsea has just announced that head coach Enzo Maresca is leaving the club.
On the evening of December 31, initial reports suggested that Maresca’s future at Stamford Bridge was coming to an endafter a series of disappointing results recently. Since the 3-0 victory over Barcelona in November, Chelsea has failed to secure any wins against teams like Arsenal, Leeds United, Bournemouth (twice), Atalanta, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa.
Additionally, the relationship between Maresca and Chelsea’s management is believed to have deteriorated over the past few months. On January 1, Maresca’s departure was officially confirmed. In a statement posted on the club’s official website, Chelsea wrote:
“Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have mutually agreed to part ways. During his time at the club, Enzo led the team to win the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. These achievements will always be a significant part of Chelsea’s recent history, and we thank Enzo for his contributions to the club..”
The announcement further emphasized: “With the team still competing for important goals across four competitions, including a Champions League spot, both Enzo and the club believe that this change at this time will give the team the best chance to get the season back on track. We wish Enzo all the best for the future..”
Ahead of the Premier League match against Manchester City next Sunday, coach Liam Rosenior has been linked as a potential replacement for Maresca at Stamford Bridge.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea will quickly appoint a new coach to replace Maresca. On social media, Romano stated: “Chelsea will name a new head coach very soon; it won’t take weeks or too long. The club is actively working on this plan. Liam Rosenior is highly regarded internally for his work at Strasbourg and is one of the candidates. The decision will be made within the next few days and won’t be delayed.”
Chelsea will face chaos if Maresca is sacked The future of coach Enzo Maresca at Chelsea has become more uncertain than ever. However, if the board decides to dismiss Maresca, they will face many unpredictable risks. Moreover, at this moment, there is no name trustworthy enough for Chelsea’s management to confidently replace Maresca. See more
