MU receives a 'cold shower' on the transfer market

The Spanish club has outright rejected the loan request for a player from one of Europe's biggest teams.

However, this proposal was quickly turned down by the Metropolitano club. Atletico has also set its stance: 30 million Euros or no deal at all.

Conor Gallagher joined Atletico Madrid about 18 months ago for a fee of 40 million Euros. Although expected to become a key figure in midfield, the 2000-born midfielder has not fully met the tactical demands of coach Diego Simeone. This season, Gallagher has frequently been on the bench and struggled to compete for a spot with more experienced and consistent players like Koke, Pablo Barrios, and Johnny Cardoso.

Lack of playing time has become a major issue for Gallagher, especially with the 2026 World Cup approaching. The English midfielder understands that to maintain his place in the national team, he needs regular club appearances and a significant role. Therefore, leaving Atletico Madrid in the upcoming transfer window is a very real possibility.

From Manchester United's side, the club is in urgent need of strengthening its midfield due to a lack of depth and stability in the current squad.Gallagher is seen as a suitable option because of his excellent fitness, energetic playing style, and Premier League experience. A return to Old Trafford could help him quickly adapt and regain his best form.

However, the 30 million Euro price tag set by Atletico Madrid is causing Manchester United to reconsider carefully. Compared to the 40 million Euros originally paid, Atletico is willing to take a loss to free up wages and have a budget to find a replacement better suited to Simeone's philosophy.
