Arsenal just showcased their strength by thrashing Aston Villa 4-1, yet the Gunners' supporters still pointed out something that needs to be changed.
Arsenal crushed their title rival Aston Villa with a 4-1 scoreline, a decisive victory in the title race. The goals at Emirates came from Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Zubimendi, Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Jesus.
Among them, the goal by Gabriel Jesus sparked the most discussion among Arsenal fans, as he scored just seconds after entering the pitch. The Brazilian forward replaced Viktor Gyokeres, who failed to register a single shot on target in 77 minutes. Only 55 seconds after coming on, Jesus netted Arsenal's fourth goal.
That impressive display instantly led supporters to call on coach Mikel Arteta to start the former Manchester City star in the next match. One fan posted on social media platform X: “Gabriel Jesus must start for Arsenal from now on. Pure class. I'm so happy to see him quickly regain form after all the struggles. Comes on, scores immediately.”
Another commented: “In my opinion, Viktor Gyokeres should never start over Jesus when Jesus is fit.”.
The 28-year-old striker is being carefully reintegrated into Arsenal’s starting lineup after an ACL injury. His goal against Aston Villa was his first since returning in early December. It was also his sixth substitute appearance since recovering from the serious knee injury.
In contrast to Jesus, Gyokeres has yet to make a significant impact since joining Arsenal for £64 million from Sporting in the summer. Despite scoring 5 Premier League goals, he has netted only once in his last seven matches, testing the patience of the fans.
Speaking on talkSPORT earlier this month, host Jennings bluntly stated: “Viktor Gyokeres has been a failed signing. I think we’ve seen enough. Doubts existed even before he arrived. Gyokeres isn’t the type of player Arsenal thought they signed, nor the one they needed.”
Still, Jennings believes this doesn’t necessarily ruin Arsenal’s ambitions this season, as the team still boasts a solid defense and various quality attacking options.
Now with Jesus’ return, coach Arteta has more options for the attack in the second half of the season. The Brazilian striker’s style differs greatly from Gyokeres, making Arsenal’s offense more versatile and unpredictable.
