New signing Rasmus Hojlund is experiencing a strong resurgence in Italy with another impressive performance at Napoli. Coach Antonio Conte explained why the Danish striker has flourished since leaving Manchester United.
Recently, Rasmus Hojlund stood out by scoring a brace to help Napoli secure a 2-0 victory at Cremonese. This result came just days after Napoli won the Italian Super Cup in Riyadh, maintaining the team's momentum in domestic competitions.
The brace at Cremona demonstrated how quickly Hojlund has adapted to Italian football since joining Napoli on loan from MU. At 22 years old, the striker showed sharpness throughout the match and nearly completed a hat-trick as Napoli dominated most of the game.
Coach Antonio Conte openly expressed his satisfaction with his player's development and provided an overall assessment of the current level of the southern Italian club: "Hojlund is a very young player, only 22, and still has room to improve. Since joining the team, he has developed into an excellent center forward. Step by step, Hojlund has adapted and learned the position he must occupy, how to shield the ball, when to drop back to receive it, or move away from the penalty area. He has matured significantly, and I am pleased with what Hojlund is showing."
Conte also emphasized Hojlund’s crucial role in his football philosophy: “He links very well with the entire team. In my style, the center forward always holds a special and decisive role in how the game is approached." However, the Italian coach remains realistic, admitting that Napoli are currently “not on the same level” as Juventus, Inter, or AC Milan.
Napoli faces a demanding schedule ahead with matches against Lazio, Inter Milan, and Juventus in Serie A, along with Chelsea in the Champions League. Conte has already warned about difficulties caused by injuries and limited squad depth, which could hinder Napoli’s consistency in defending their Serie A title as well as progressing further in Serie A.
At the same time, Conte did not mention whether Napoli will activate the option to buy Hojlund permanently from MU but confirmed the club will make a decision when the time is right.
