Tottenham has agreed to sell their expensive attacking star to a rival in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur has finalized a deal to sell Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for about £35 million, a transfer expected to have significant cascading effects on the Premier League transfer market soon.

After over two seasons wearing the Spurs jersey, the Welsh winger is preparing to leave North London in search of a new opportunity to revive his career with a different team.

Brennan Johnson joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest in 2023 for nearly £47.5 million. Despite sparking much debate over his transfer value, Johnson is generally viewed as a fairly successful signing. In his first season at Spurs, he scored 5 goals in 34 appearances.

In the 2024/25 season, Johnson had a breakout year with 18 goals, finishing as Tottenham’s top scorer. The pinnacle of his time at Spurs was the winning goal against Manchester United in the Europa League final, marking a memorable moment in the club’s history.

However, everything changed when Thomas Frank took over at Tottenham. Johnson gradually lost his regular starting position and was no longer used as often as he was under Ange Postecoglou. This season, he has started just 6 Premier League games, scored 2 goals, and made 10 substitute appearances. In total, Johnson has scored 4 goals across all competitions, a relatively low figure compared to the previous two seasons.

In this situation, Crystal Palace acted quickly and reached an agreement with Tottenham. Palace expects Johnson to bring dynamism and quality to their attack, while the 24-year-old player himself wishes to get more playing time to maintain his career momentum.

Earlier, Bournemouth also expressed interest in Johnson as soon as the winter transfer window opened. This development could directly influence the future of Antoine Semenyo – a winger highly sought after by several major clubs. Semenyo was reportedly close to joining Manchester City for around £65 million, while Tottenham closely monitored him until Liverpool and Arsenal joined the chase. If Semenyo does move to Man City, Tottenham might revisit the Savinho deal after failing to sign the Brazilian in the summer.

For Spurs, coach Thomas Frank is reportedly prioritizing signing a new left winger in January, after experimenting with several options including Wilson Odobert, Randal Kolo Muani, Xavi Simons, and Brennan Johnson himself. Furthermore, Tottenham has been linked with Omar Marmoush from Man City, Kenan Yildiz (Juventus), and Samu Aghehowa (Porto), signaling a potentially turbulent transfer window ahead for the North London club.
