Indonesia’s national team is confident in retaining the former Manchester United star despite European interest.

Indonesia remains optimistic about holding onto Jordi Cruyff despite his agreement to take the role of Technical Director at Ajax, Netherlands.

Jordi Cruyff has reached an agreement to join the management team of Ajax Amsterdam, one of the top clubs in the Netherlands. The son of football legend Johan Cruyff will serve as the Technical Director at Ajax.

This information was confirmed after Ajax issued an official statement regarding Jordi Cruyff. The Dutch national has reached a verbal agreement with the club’s leadership.

However, Cruyff will only start his duties in February 2026. Currently, Ajax’s board is processing approval from the supervisory board during the shareholders’ meeting. This raises the question of Jordi Cruyff’s position within PSSI (Indonesian Football Association) What will happen? As of now, he still holds the role of Technical Advisor for the Indonesian national team, a position he has held since February 2025.

Contrary to many predictions that Jordi Cruyff would step down from secondary roles after taking up his position at Ajax, the reality is quite the opposite. According to De Telegraaf, Cruyff will continue advising the Indonesian Football Association despite his new job in Amsterdam. Notably, Ajax even supports this arrangement.

He will only advise for a few days each year to ensure his responsibilities at Ajax are not compromised.”

According to Bola, even before Jordi Cruyff joined as Technical Director, Ajax had explored potential collaborations with clubs in Indonesia. Ajax considers Indonesia an attractive market due to the large Dutch-Indonesian community and the deep historical ties to Dutch football culture.

Additionally, Erick Thohir, President of the Indonesian Football Association, is known as a big fan of Dutch football philosophy and is very impressed by Jordi Cruyff and his football vision.

Jordi Cruyff is the son of the late legend Johan Cruyff. He played for Barcelona and Manchester United during his career, notably winning the Premier League title in the 1996/97 season with the Red Devils. However, his career was frequently interrupted by injuries, preventing him from reaching the star status of his father.

After retiring, Cruyff coached several clubs including Maccabi Tel Aviv, Chongqing, Ecuador’s national team, and Shenzhen FC. In February 2025, he officially became the Technical Advisor for the Indonesian national team.
