In an interview with Naver Blog, fitness specialist Cedric Roger shared his insights and the development path for Vietnamese football in the coming years.
Recently, fitness coach Cedric Roger of the Vietnamese national teams had an in-depth discussion with the Naver Blog (South Korea) about his overall work experience and his journey with Vietnamese football.
During the interview, the French expert evaluated the progress of Vietnamese football over recent years:
"Vietnamese football holds great potential for growth in terms of passion and player participation. Since 2018, there has been accelerated development in youth football with a clear vision from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and private corporations investing in academies like PVF.
With a structured youth training system, Vietnamese football is gradually improving, especially in technical and tactical aspects, significantly enhancing young players' understanding. The combination of infrastructure investment and long-term vision leads me to believe the future of Vietnamese football is very promising", he shared.
Expert Cedric Roger has spent many years working in Vietnam, starting at the PVF youth training center, serving as a "right-hand man" to coach Philippe Troussier
In June 2021, he signed a contract with the Vietnam Football Federation aiming to realize the World Cup dream for the Vietnamese women's team. His role is to support head coach Mai Duc Chung in improving players' fitness; analyzing technical footage to promptly suggest ways to enhance players' physical condition. With the support of the French expert, the Vietnamese women's team qualified for the 2023 World Cup for the first time. Besides working with the women's team, Roger also assists all Vietnamese teams in international competitions.
When asked what Vietnamese football needs to do to continue developing regionally and globally, the French expert stated:
"Above all, they must keep investing in youth football development because the foundation of the pyramid must be wide and solid for the peak to be high. In terms of quantity, more children need access to systematic football education, and in quality, international-standard training programs must be provided.
Additionally, infrastructure such as stadiums, training facilities, and medical centers should keep improving. Good facilities accelerate player development. Vietnam is on the right path, but this is not a sprint; it is a marathon. If stable investment and long-term vision continue, the future of Vietnamese football will be very bright."
