Grandmaster Lê Quang Liêm completed the rapid chess competition at the 2025 World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship, securing 58th place overall. The tournament, held in Doha (Qatar), has finished all rapid rounds for both the men’s and women’s sections.
After 13 rounds played under the Swiss system, Lê Quang Liêm scored a total of 7.5 points, becoming the highest-ranked Vietnamese player in the men's section. On the final day of the rapid event, the top Vietnamese grandmaster defeated Grandmaster Ahmad Khagan from Azerbaijan. However, this result was not enough to improve his ranking into the leading group. Overall, Lê Quang Liêm achieved 6 wins, 3 draws, and 4 losses in the rapid competition.
In the men's section, other Vietnamese players did not reach high positions. Lê Tuấn Minh and Đầu Khương Duy both scored 5.5 points after 13 rounds, while Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn earned only 4 points. The men's rapid champion was the super grandmaster Magnus Carlsen from Norway, who dominated with 10.5 points, far ahead of the rest of the field.
In the women's section, Grandmaster Phạm Lê Thảo Nguyên finished the rapid event with 6.5 points after 11 rounds, placing 45th overall. She secured 3 wins, 7 draws, and only 1 loss throughout the tournament. Grandmaster Võ Thị Kim Phụng scored 6 points, ranking 58th. The women’s rapid champion was Zhu Jiner from China with 8.5 points.
After the rapid event concluded, players moved on to compete in the blitz chess segment. According to the regulations, the men’s section will play 19 rounds, while the women’s section will play 15 rounds to determine the final rankings. The championship of chess rapid and blitz 2025 is expected to conclude on December 31 local time.
