On December 29, coach Diego Giustozzi revealed the list of players called up to the Vietnam futsal team for the upcoming 2026 AFC Futsal Championship.
Roster Vietnam futsal national team this time marks the notable return of several experienced players who had been absent due to injuries. This includes the comeback of the trio Trần Thái Huy, Châu Đoàn Phát, and Ngô Ngọc Sơn. Previously, all three missed the 33rd SEA Games because they had not fully recovered their fitness and form, but now they are ready to rejoin and strengthen the team’s depth and competitive spirit.
Additionally, Châu Đoàn Phát was recently honored with the 2025 Futsal Golden Ball award, while Từ Minh Quang and Nguyễn Đa Hải – recipients of the 2025 Futsal Silver and Bronze Balls respectively – also remain part of this training squad.
According to the plan, the Vietnam futsal team will begin training on January 2, 2026, at the Chánh Hưng ward futsal arena (Ho Chi Minh City). Under the guidance of coach Diego Giustozzi, the entire squad will enter an intensive preparation phase with a rigorous training schedule, aiming to peak in performance ahead of the continent’s major tournament.
As part of the preparation organized by the Vietnam Football Federation, the futsal team will play two international friendly matches against Afghanistan on January 19 and 21, 2026, in Ho Chi Minh City. These matches are considered crucial tests for the coaching staff to evaluate the squad, refine tactics, and experiment with strategies before the team departs for Indonesia on January 27, 2026, to compete in the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship.
In this tournament, Vietnam is placed in Group B alongside strong opponents including the reigning Asian runners-up Thailand, Kuwait, and Lebanon. The group is highly competitive, requiring coach Diego Giustozzi’s team to prepare thoroughly both technically and mentally.
With the lessons learned from the 33rd SEA Gamesand the Vietnam Football Federation’s well-planned, long-term preparation strategy, the Vietnam futsal team embarks on a new journey determined to achieve success at the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship, thereby further affirming Vietnam’s futsal status on the continental stage.
