Indonesian fans express surprising views on Vietnamese futsal after consecutive defeats

Both the Vietnam U16 and U19 futsal squads were unable to beat their rivals, further prolonging the unfortunate run for futsal in Vietnam.

December 29 marked a gloomy day for Vietnamese futsal as neither the U16 nor U19 teams secured victory in the third-place matches. The U19 team drew 2-2 with Malaysia U19 before losing 3-4 on penalties, while the U16 team was defeated 1-2 by Myanmar U16.

Vietnamese futsal’s two back-to-back defeats within hours immediately caught the attention of the online community. Among them, Indonesian supporters are known as some of the most passionate and dedicated followers. “It’s really unexpected that Vietnam could lose to Myanmar”, wrote the user Broetoe Piti'k.

User Al Kabir Kabir commented: Vietnam is currently experiencing a decline in form. Volleyball lost to the Philippines. The national futsal team was defeated by Malaysia. The U16 futsal team lost to Myanmar.

The defeats of both Vietnam’s U16 and U19 futsal teams in the third-place matches close a rather disappointing year for the nation’s futsal. Previously, at SEA Games 33, the Vietnamese men’s futsal team also finished fourth despite aiming for the gold medal.

However, Vietnamese futsal still had bright spots in 2025, most notably the women’s futsal team. Tran Thi Thuy Trang and her teammates impressively won the gold medal in the women’s futsal event at SEA Games 33.

Following the remarkable achievements of Vietnamese football at SEA Games 33, it is clear that Vietnam’s football disciplines are gaining significant attention from neighboring countries. This is both good news and a source of pressure for the players, especially the youth teams.
