Vietnam’s U16 team ended the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship with disappointment, finishing fourth overall and leaving without any medals.
During the group stage, Vietnam’s U16 team missed the chance to participate in the final by just one point behind Indonesia’s U16 team. Losing control of their fate in the last match forced the red-shirted squad to accept elimination from the title race, even though they had held the advantage at times.
Finishing third after the group stage, Vietnam’s U16 advanced to the bronze medal match against Myanmar’s U16. Previously, in the group stage, the red team had defeated this opponent 5-2. However, in this crucial encounter, the story was completely different.
Vietnam’s U16 started proactively, controlling the ball well and organizing their attacks clearly. Nevertheless, a recurring problem appeared again as the final actions lacked accuracy and the necessary sharpness. In contrast, Myanmar’s U16 played patiently with tight defense, waiting for opportunities to launch quick counterattacks.
Vietnam’s U16 suffered a shocking loss to the team they had previously beaten 5-2 in the classification round.
In the 7th minute, a mistake in their own half cost Vietnam’s U16 dearly. Nay Lin Phyo took advantage of the one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper and neatly finished to open the score for Myanmar. This early goal forced the red team to push their lines higher, even using a power-play tactic to try to equalize, but it was ineffective.
By the 25th minute, another costly turnover allowed Myanmar to counterattack again. Kaung Khant sprinted forward and finished accurately, doubling the lead to 2-0. Trapped in a difficult position, Vietnam’s U16 sparked hope from a set-piece when Gia Bảo scored to narrow the gap to 1-2.
However, the remaining efforts were not enough to break through the opponent’s compact defense. In the end, Vietnam’s U16 accepted a 1-2 defeat, closing the tournament in fourth place, just above Brunei’s U16, while Myanmar’s U16 secured the bronze medal.
