During the third-place match at the U16 Southeast Asia futsal championship, U16 Vietnam lost 1-2 to U16 Myanmar.
This result was somewhat unexpected for Coach Trịnh Hữu Thành's team because in the group stage, U16 Vietnam had previously beaten this opponent with a clear 5-2 scoreline.
U16 Vietnam started the game with enthusiasm, but it was the opponents who scored the opening goal first. The first half ended with a 1-0 lead for U16 Myanmar. In the second half, the red-shirted team improved their performance and managed to score a goal, but it wasn't enough as Myanmar also added another goal to secure a 2-1 victory.
Thus, concluding the tournament in Thailand, the U16 Vietnam futsal team achieved 2 wins (5-2 against Myanmar, 5-3 against Brunei in the group stage), 1 draw 2-2 with U16 Indonesia, and suffered 2 losses (1-5 to U16 Thailand in the group stage and 1-2 to Myanmar in the third-place match).
Although the results fell short of expectations, the 2025 U16 Southeast Asia futsal championship provided a great opportunity for Vietnam’s young players to gain experience and develop further. Previously, U16 Vietnam did not set high goals for this tournament but focused on gaining international match experience and demonstrating the strength of Vietnamese youth futsal in the regional arena.
In the final held at 16:00 on the same day, the host U16 Thailand will face U16 Indonesia.
In another development, the team U19 Vietnam futsal will also compete for third place against U19 Malaysia at 13:00 at Nonthaburi Arena (Thailand).
