As reported by Bola Sport, Ajax Amsterdam has officially reached an agreement with Indonesia's technical advisor Jordi Cruyff to take on the role of Technical Director.
According to Bola Sport, Jordi Cruyff was announced by PSSI President Erick Thohir as the Technical Advisor for the Indonesia national team on February 25, 2025. This appointment was considered a significant step in Indonesia's football development strategy, as Jordi Cruyff brings extensive experience from working at various clubs. Notably, in 2021, Jordi Cruyff returned to Barcelona as the Sporting Director, assisting the club during its rebuilding phase after Messi's departure.
During his tenure at PSSI, Jordi Cruyff was expected to guide the long-term strategic direction for Indonesia’s teams, spanning from youth development systems to the senior national team. He also collaborated closely with coach Patrick Kluivert and the coaching staff in building the Indonesian squad.
However, the situation changed after PSSI decided to terminate coach Patrick Kluivert’s contract on October 16, 2025, at a time when the Indonesia national team failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Since then, Jordi Cruyff’s role at PSSI gradually diminished, and his future within the federation’s technical staff became uncertain.
In reality, Jordi Cruyff has not been present in Indonesia for an extended period, sparking rumors about his potential departure from PSSI. Meanwhile, Dutch media consistently reported that Ajax Amsterdam was targeting Jordi Cruyff for the position of Technical Director, a key role in the club’s rebuilding strategy.
After numerous rumors, Ajax Amsterdam officially confirmed the agreement with Jordi Cruyff. According to the Dutch club’s announcement, 51-year-old Jordi Cruyff has reached a verbal agreement to become Ajax’s Technical Director in the near future.
With this agreement, Jordi Cruyff is almost certain to end his role as Technical Advisor at PSSI, marking a new chapter in his football management career. Meanwhile, PSSI will need to quickly consider replacement options to continue strengthening their technical staff, especially as the Indonesia national team prepares for new long-term goals following their failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
