Indonesian center-back receives special honor in Serie A

Jay Idzes, captain of Indonesia’s national team, continues to leave a strong mark in European football as he and Tarik Muharemovic were honored as the best center-back pair in Serie A for the 2025/2026 season to date.

Indonesian center-back honored again in Italy

This recognition came after Sassuolo’s 1-1 draw with Bologna in the early hours of December 29 (Vietnam time), where coach Fabio Grosso’s defensive duo played a pivotal role in the match.

At the Renato Dall'Ara stadium, both Jay Idzes and Muharemovic started the match. The Indonesian national team captain made a significant impact with a crucial save in the 31st minute, blocking a close-range attempt by the opposition. In the second half, Muharemovic became the hero by heading in the equalizer from a corner kick, helping Sassuolo secure a positive result.

The strong coordination between Idzes (right) and Muharemovic has helped Sassuolo concede only 12 goals this season.

After the match, Muharemovic humbly commented on his chemistry with Idzes: "We talk every day, fully understand each other’s strengths, and want to prove that we are strong enough, even if some people doubted us."

This professional accolade arrives at a time when Jay Idzes is making remarkable progress in his market value. According to Transfermarkt’s update on December 23, 2025, the center-back born in 2000 has risen in value from 7.5 million euros to 10 million euros, becoming the most expensive player in Indonesian and Southeast Asian football history. Previously, upon joining Sassuolo in August 2025 for 7.5 million euros, Idzes broke the regional transfer record by a wide margin.
