Fernando Martin, the coach of Valencia's women's B team, died together with three relatives when their boat overturned in Indonesia.
Club Valencia has confirmed the heartbreaking news that Fernando Martin, the coach of the women's B team, passed away last Saturday.
According to reports, Martin and his family were on a tourist boat off the coast of Indonesia when it was hit by waves approximately 3 meters high, causing it to capsize. At the time of the accident, there were 11 people on board, and the incident occurred near Padar Island Strait on Friday.
After hours of searching, Coach Fernando Martin and his three children, aged 9, 10, and 12, were confirmed dead. Meanwhile, his wife and 7-year-old daughter were rescued safely by emergency responders.
Besides Martin's family, four crew members and one tour guide were also rescued from the dangerous waters. Search efforts for the remaining victims are still ongoing.
In an official statement, Valencia said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Fernando Martín, coach of Valencia CF Femenino B, along with his three children in a tragic boating accident in Indonesia, as confirmed by local authorities.
During this incredibly difficult time, the club extends its deepest condolences and full support to his family, friends, and colleagues at Valencia CF, Valencia CF Femenino, and the VCF Academy.”
After Valencia confirmed the news, Real Madrid also posted a tribute to Fernando Martín and his family.
The Spanish royal club wrote: "Real Madrid, along with the club president and board, is shocked and heartbroken to learn of the death of Fernando Martin, coach of Valencia’s women's B team, and his three children in a tragic boat accident in Indonesia.
Real Madrid offers its deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his wife Andrea and daughter Mar during this very difficult time."
