The Vietnam - Malaysia match might take place at My Dinh Stadium.

The National My Dinh Stadium is on the verge of becoming the venue for the crucial game between Vietnam and Malaysia during the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying round, expected in March 2026.

After a long period without major international matches, My Dinh Stadium is currently undergoing a comprehensive upgrade. Observations at the end of December 2025 show that the renovation of the pitch is progressing quickly and on schedule. The old soil layer has been completely removed, the ground leveled and carefully treated. This is a critical step to ensure stability, drainage capacity, and the durability of the grass surface in the future.

According to the project management plan, after completing the base layer, the stadium will receive additional technical materials before replanting the entire turf. The chosen grass variety is Zeon Zoysia, a premium type used at many famous European stadiums such as Old Trafford and Anfield. Simultaneously, the automatic irrigation system will be upgraded to support long-term maintenance and care of the pitch quality.

This renovation, which began in early September 2025, is considered the largest project at My Dinh since SEA Games 31. The total investment is about 10 billion VND from the state budget, mostly allocated to ground treatment and turf renewal. These were the main issues that caused My Dinh Stadium to receive much criticism due to severe deterioration at the end of 2024.

Due to the poor quality of the pitch, the Vietnam national team was forced to leave My Dinh and move to play at Viet Tri Stadium within the framework of the 2024 AFF Cup. This disappointed fans as the national stadium could not host the team’s major matches.

If the renovation and grass growing process go smoothly, My Dinh Stadium may be ready to host international matches as early as 2026. In this context, the Vietnam vs. Malaysia match in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers in March 2026 is seen as a very likely scenario for My Dinh’s comeback.

This match is considered decisive, akin to a final in the race for qualification. Playing at home, supported by tens of thousands of fans in Hanoi, will be a significant advantage for the Vietnam national team and their coach.
