Vietnam’s U16 futsal squad ended up third in the group standings and will play in the third-place match at the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal tournament.
During the third round of the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship, Vietnam’s U16 futsal team faced a tough challenge against their long-time rivals, Thailand’s U16 squad. Despite strong efforts, our young players had to accept a 1-5 defeat overall.
As a result, before the fourth round, Vietnam’s U16 futsal team ranked third with 4 points (1 win, 1 draw, and 1 loss), trailing Indonesia by 3 points and Thailand by 5 points. Therefore, even if they defeated Brunei in the final match, the chance for Vietnam to reach second place and qualify for the final was very slim.
As expected, Vietnam’s U16 futsal team secured a 4-1 win over Brunei but in the subsequent match, Thailand’s U16 futsal team only managed a 3-3 draw against Indonesia. Thus, after the single round-robin group stage, Vietnam’s U16 futsal team finished third with 7 points, one point behind Indonesia and three points behind Thailand.
Vietnam’s U16 futsal team will play the third-place match against Myanmar on December 29. Meanwhile, the final will be a rematch between Thailand’s U16 futsal team—the top futsal nation in Southeast Asia—and Indonesia’s U16 team, which has shown significant progress in recent years in this sport.
The 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship features five teams: Thailand (host), Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Brunei. The teams compete in a single round-robin format to determine the top two teams that advance to the final, while the third and fourth place teams contest the third-place match.
With serious preparation and clear goals, Vietnam’s U16 futsal team aims to gain international experience and demonstrate the strength of Vietnamese youth futsal in the regional arena.
