Midfielder Nguyễn Thị Bích Thuỳ gave touching remarks after securing the 2025 Vietnam Golden Ball title.
On the evening of December 26, at the 2025 Vietnam Golden Ball Award Gala, midfielder Nguyễn Thị Bích Thuỳ stood on the top podium for the first time, receiving the "Golden Ball for Women" award. Previously, the Thái Nguyên T&T player often ranked in the top three but had only won the Golden Ball three times.
The year 2025 marked a breakthrough and successful season for the player born in 1994. She played energetically in the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Championship, the 2026 Women's Asian Qualifiers, and most recently at the 33rd SEA Games. In these tournaments, not only did she impress by controlling the midfield for Vietnam, but Bích Thuỳ also showcased a knack for scoring consistently.
However, alongside the glory, the journey to this prestigious award for the Thái Nguyên T&T midfielder was filled with tears. In the decisive final between the Vietnam women's national team and the Philippines at the Southeast Asian Games, Bích Thuỳ scored a header against the Philippines but due to a referee's mistake, her spectacular goal was not recognized. This incident became a turning point that caused Bích Thuỳ and her teammates to miss out on their fifth consecutive gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games.
The "Golden Ball" award is a well-deserved reward for a year full of joy, sorrow, happiness, and regrets for Bích Thuỳ and the Vietnamese women's team. After the ceremony, Bích Thuỳ shared: "Throughout 15 years pursuing my football career, I promised my father that I would achieve the highest individual honor. Unfortunately, he could not witness this moment in person today. However, I believe he is watching over me from heaven and sees this achievement.
I thank my father, who always protected me and gave me the mental strength to perform well in every tournament. I thank my mother, who constantly supports and encourages me. Thanks to coach Mai Đức Chung, who has always provided opportunities and allowed me to correct my mistakes. He not only gave me chances to play but also chances to improve.
Losing the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games is a deep regret. But in return, I have received so much love from everyone. People say that heaven never takes everything away from anyone. And today, I am rewarded with this title," Bích Thuỳ said emotionally.
