The Vietnam Golden Ball Award - a national brand initiated and organized by the Saigon Liberation Newspaper (SGGP) since 1995, has become a significant event in the country’s football scene. Recognizing, honoring, and rewarding the tireless contributions of many generations of talented Vietnamese football players, the Vietnam Golden Ball Award also serves as a motivational goal and aspiration for all players.
Vietnamese football had an eventful 2025 with many commendable achievements: The men’s national team stands a chance to qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup; the U23 team won the Southeast Asian U23 Championship; the U22 team earned the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games in 2025; the women’s futsal team took gold at SEA Games 33; the women’s football team secured silver at SEA Games 33; and the men’s futsal team qualified for the 2026 Asian Championship…
Especially, the victorious moments of the young players at the 33rd SEA Games stirred the hearts of millions of Vietnamese football fans.
These impressive achievements have inspired the Saigon Liberation Newspaper to dedicate its efforts to successfully organizing the award gala on the evening of December 26 at Ben Thanh Theater. This event stands out as a memorable and meaningful highlight in Vietnamese football for 2025.
After 29 seasons, the Vietnam Golden Ball Award can be considered one of the key events, alongside many other cultural and sports activities, that have helped create a vibrant and meaningful football atmosphere in Ho Chi Minh City’s cultural and sports scene. The award motivates football players to strive hard, proving their talent and ethics both on the pitch and in everyday life.
This year, marking the 30th award ceremony, SGGP also launched a notable and compassionate program called “Warm Clothes to School,” initiated and organized by the newspaper to support poor children in remote, mountainous, and especially difficult areas who often face harsh weather conditions such as cold seasons, droughts, and storms. Each year, Vietnamese football stars will join hands with SGGP to fulfill this special mission.
