The Vietnam Football Federation follows the regulation that coaching licenses from levels C, B, A to Pro have a validity of 3 years and are required to be renewed regularly by the AFC.
In the context of modern football constantly evolving in tactics, sports science, and technology-assisted competition, the training and development of coaches play an increasingly crucial role in the sustainable growth of national football. Acknowledging this, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) in 2025 has implemented a comprehensive set of training programs, updates, and renewals of coaching certificates in strict accordance with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) standards.
According to the AFC Coaching Convention Regulations 2024, coaching certificates from C, B, A to Pro levels are valid for 3 years and must be renewed periodically. This regulation ensures that coaches continually update their knowledge, skills, and the latest trends in modern football, thereby meeting the increasing demands of both domestic and international competitions.
In line with the unified AFC regulations, the VFF issued Decision No. 858/QĐ-LĐBĐVN dated September 15, 2025, regarding the extension of validity for AFC/VFF football coaching certificates. This renewal process is not merely procedural but involves a comprehensive assessment of the coach’s professional competence and practical activities, contributing to the standardization of the coaching workforce within Vietnam's football system.
Under the new rule, coaches must participate in supplementary courses, professional seminars, and practical coaching activities to be eligible for certificate renewal. The updated content focuses on core trends in modern football such as tactics, sports science, sports medicine, data analysis, video assistant referee (VAR) technology, as well as management skills and youth player development. This approach prevents coaches from falling behind the rapid global football advancements while enhancing their reputation and career opportunities.
In 2025, the VFF organized 23 coaching training courses — notably including the Professional PRO coaching course, which is the highest level in the AFC coaching education system, along with 2 training sessions on sports medicine and 8 professional seminars. These programs are designed closely aligned with practical needs, directly supporting the training of coaching personnel for both professional and grassroots football.
The courses are taught by experienced instructors combining theory and practice, helping participants access modern knowledge while improving on-field coaching skills. The organization, facilities, and training grounds are coordinated by the VFF in close cooperation with relevant units to ensure quality and effectiveness of each course.
