MU blocks Kobbie Mainoo's exit following the latest statement from coach Amorim

MU has decided against allowing Kobbie Mainoo to leave Old Trafford on loan during the January transfer window, despite the young midfielder’s wish to find a new destination due to strained relations with the club.

Coach Ruben Amorim confirmed that Mainoo is "Manchester United’s future" and stated that the club cannot let him depart without first finding a proper replacement. The Portuguese manager said MU’s focus is on squad stability rather than temporary winter signings.

Mainoo’s future belongs at MU

Previously, Napoli showed interest in taking Mainoo on loan to their Serie A side during the summer. However, Manchester United refused because they hadn’t reinforced the midfield in time. This position remains unchanged now, as the club is expected to reserve funds for the summer transfer window.

Mainoo’s chances to play in the Premier League this season are quite limited, partly due to the presence of captain Bruno Fernandes. The 20-year-old midfielder recently missed his first starting opportunity because of a calf injury during training. Ironically, Fernandes then suffered a hamstring injury, resulting in both missing the Boxing Day game against Newcastle.

Amorim admitted Mainoo’s bad luck and encouraged the young player to remain patient. He emphasized that Mainoo can cover various midfield roles, including defensive midfielder, making him a key tactical option amid a weakened squad.

MU is currently facing significant squad shortages due to injuries and international fixtures. Therefore, allowing Mainoo to leave in January is seen as a big risk. For Amorim, keeping the young midfielder is not only a short-term solution but also a long-term investment for the club’s future.
