Madam Pang unexpectedly received a rare honor following the SEA Games.

The President of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), “Madam Pang” Nualphan Lamsam, has just been awarded a major distinction following SEA Games 33.

On December 24, 2025, Madam Pang was officially granted an honorary Doctorate in Business Management of Tourism and Hospitality by Nakhon Phanom University. The prestigious ceremony took place at the Wachiraphit Hall, presided over by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, drawing significant attention from Thailand’s sports community and media. This is regarded as recognition of the outstanding contributions made by the leading female entrepreneur and sports manager of the Land of Smiles, not only in football but also in social, economic, and sustainable development activities.

Moreover, prior to the start of SEA Games 33, Madam Pang made a strong impression when FIFA appointed her as Chairwoman of the FIFA Development Committee for the 2025–2029 term, becoming the first woman in football history worldwide to hold this position. Her frequent participation in FIFA meetings in France and Qatar further solidified her image as a globally influential leader.

However, these significant milestones came at a time when Thai football had just gone through a disappointing SEA Games 33. Before the event, Madam Pang openly expressed her ambition to “sweep all four gold medals” in football categories, including men’s football, women’s football, men’s futsal, and women’s futsal.

Thailand’s football team ended up empty-handed in all four football categories at SEA Games 33.

In reality, the outcome was completely opposite. When SEA Games 33 concluded, Thai football shocked many by failing to secure any gold medals in the four categories it was expected to dominate. This is considered one of the most disappointing SEA Games in the history of Thai football, especially since all advantages such as venue, audience support, and investment favored the host country.

Nevertheless, experts believe that the setback at SEA Games 33 does not diminish Madam Pang’s significant contributions to Thai football specifically and Southeast Asian football generally. Her key role within FIFA remains a great source of pride and opens opportunities for Thai football to adjust its strategies, aiming for long-term goals rather than focusing only on short-term success at regional events.
