Despite the Premier League being more challenging, a forward who doesn’t score much there will also struggle in Serie A. A 42 million euro signing is a significant investment for an Italian team, yet Milan’s costly acquisition of former Bundesliga Golden Boot winner Nkunku appears to have failed.
According to the latest information from well-known Italian reporter Schira, AC Milan is open to selling this season’s new signing, the 28-year-old French forward Nkunku, in the winter window if an appropriate offer comes in.
This past summer (end of August), AC Milan signed Nkunku from Chelsea for 37 million euros plus 5 million euros in potential add-ons. The player’s net annual salary is 5 million euros, with a contract running until 2030. However, Nkunku has shown no form since moving from the Premier League to Serie A. So far this season, he has appeared 14 times in all competitions for Milan, scoring 1 goal and providing 2 assists; in Serie A, he has played 11 matches with 0 goals and 2 assists. Such stats are very disappointing for a forward. Nkunku’s latest market value on Transfermarkt has dropped to 32 million euros.
In my personal opinion, given Nkunku’s poor current form, Milan will not be able to sell him in the winter window and likely won’t receive any suitable offers. The only viable solution at present is for Milan to sign a center forward to give Nkunku a chance. This former Bundesliga top scorer is better suited as a second striker rather than playing as a number 9 or in a two-striker formation.
