Manchester United is preparing for a hectic summer, focusing both on transfers and infrastructure improvements.
According to multiple sources from the British media, including the Daily Mail, MU’s management has formulated a plan to renovate Old Trafford stadium to address long-standing issues, especially the deteriorating roof and inefficient drainage system.
The leaking roof issue at Old Trafford is well-known among fans. In recent seasons, images of rainwater dripping onto the stands or corridors have frequently appeared, negatively impacting the reputation of one of football’s most iconic stadiums. Therefore, the top priority in this renovation plan is to comprehensively upgrade the drainage system, including renewing gutters and thoroughly resolving clogging problems that cause water to accumulate on the roof.
Beyond that, the pitch at Old Trafford will also undergo a major overhaul this summer. This step is necessary given the increasingly congested match schedule, which often affects pitch quality. A high-standard playing surface not only improves the quality of matches but also reduces injury risks for players, a factor that the coaching staff pays special attention to.
Apart from the playing area, MU also plans to upgrade the substitutes’ bench and technical zones. These areas will be modified to comply with UEFA’s latest regulations, ensuring Old Trafford meets the standards to host continental matches in the near future. Though a minor detail, this reflects MU’s effort to align with the modern standards of elite football.
Notably, the Old Trafford renovation plan is only a short- to medium-term solution. In the long run, Manchester United still aims to build an entirely new stadium with a capacity of up to 100,000 seats. This project is expected to place MU alongside Europe’s most modern stadiums and generate enormous revenue from ticket sales, services, and commercial activities.
