The 18-0 win against Brunei is giving Vietnam’s U19 futsal squad a significant edge in the Southeast Asia competition.
Vietnam’s U19 futsal team made an impressive debut at the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship by securing a commanding 18-0 win over U19 Brunei, marking a strong start to their regional campaign. This emphatic 18-0 victory not only earned a full 3 points but also gave Vietnam’s U19 futsal team a substantial goal difference advantage after the opening match.
This result reflects thorough preparation, squad depth, and the high determination of coach Nguyễn Anh Khoa’s team at the inaugural AFF U19 futsal tournament.
Naturally, this win has guaranteed Vietnam’s U19 futsal team a spot in the semifinals since each group of three teams advances two. Both Vietnam and Thailand have already secured progression after one victory each. The final match between these two will decide the group leader.
Since Thailand only won 9-0 while Vietnam triumphed 18-0, doubling the goal difference, just avoiding defeat against Thailand in the last round will ensure Vietnam finishes first in the group. This could be a major advantage as the group A winner will face the runner-up from group B in the semifinals.
According to the draw results, at the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship, Vietnam’s U19 futsal team is in group A alongside Thailand and Brunei. Group B consists of Indonesia, Myanmar, and Malaysia. The tournament runs from December 23 to 29, 2025, at Nonthaburi Provincial Stadium, using a single round-robin format within each group, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals to compete for a place in the final.
The AFF’s inaugural organization of U19 futsal competitions is seen as a significant milestone for the development of youth futsal in Southeast Asia, providing young players opportunities to gain international match experience. Vietnam’s U19 futsal team aims to showcase strong skills and accumulate valuable international experience to become a future feeder for the senior national team.
