MU came away empty-handed as visitors to Aston Villa

The away visit to Villa Park once again ended in frustration for MU as they lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in the Premier League’s 17th round.

Starting the match with a seriously weakened squad because several key players were away on Africa Cup of Nations duty, coupled with the injury to captain Bruno Fernandes, the "Red Devils" did not have enough strength to cause an upset against an in-form Aston Villa.

MU defeated 2-1 at Villa Park

The home side quickly asserted their dominance with proactive and effective play. Morgan Rodgers became the standout player by scoring twice with two exquisite curling shots, securing Aston Villa’s 10th consecutive victory across all competitions — a historic milestone never before achieved at Villa Park in over a century. This result allowed Unai Emery’s team to keep chasing the top spot, maintaining a 3-point gap behind Arsenal.

However, from MU’s perspective, this loss was full of regrets. The visitors were not outplayed in terms of game control; at times, they even dominated possession and applied significant pressure in the opponent’s half. Matheus Cunha’s equalizer brought hope, but a lack of sharpness in finishing and defensive errors cost MU dearly. With Casemiro suspended, Manuel Ugarte underperforming, and young center-back Leny Yoro continuing inconsistent form, MU’s defense wobbled multiple times, notably conceding the decisive goal in the 58th minute.
