The Vietnam women's national football team confidently looks ahead to the Asian Cup.

Ending 2025 with a third-place finish at the AFF Cup and a silver medal at the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnam women's national football team has preserved the essential stability during their squad transition period.

The defeat in the SEA Games 33 final may be considered a low point, but it also acts as a driving force for the Vietnam women's team players to reassess their weaknesses and become more determined as they prepare for the upcoming continental tournament.

The 2026 Women's Asian Cup will take place in Australia from March 1 to 21, featuring 12 national teams. Vietnam is in Group C along with Japan, India, and Chinese Taipei. Group A includes Australia, South Korea, Iran, and the Philippines, while Group B comprises North Korea, China, Bangladesh, and Uzbekistan.

The draw is seen as fairly favorable for the Vietnam women's team. However, before setting sights on qualifying for the 2027 Women's World Cup, Coach Mai Đức Chung’s squad must first advance beyond the group stage of the 2026 Asian Cup. With their current capabilities, Vietnam is expected to achieve this goal.

When leaving Chonburi (Thailand) after the 33rd SEA Games to return home, Coach Mai Đức Chung gave personal advice to each player, urging the entire team to quickly recover their spirit, forget the disappointment, and focus on preparing for the 2026 Women's Asian Cup finals in March.

After the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday, the Vietnam women's team will reconvene. Although Coach Mai Đức Chung has hinted at possibly stepping down and not continuing to lead the team in the 2027 Women's World Cup qualifying campaign and upcoming SEA Games, it is likely he will remain with the team for the forthcoming continental tournament.
