The Vietnam women’s team was just denied a clear goal by the referee. Bich Thuy was positioned several meters ahead of the last Philippine defender but was still called offside.

Vietnam was unfairly robbed of a goal

Based on slow-motion footage of this moment, it is evident that the referee’s offside call in the Vietnam vs Philippines women’s match was an extremely crude mistake, almost unacceptable in a SEA Games game.

First of all, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy’s position was absolutely not offside. On the contrary, she was several meters ahead of the last Philippine defender. In the shot, the Philippine defense had two more players positioned behind Bich Thuy, including a left-center back and a player near the edge of the penalty box. At the moment the ball was passed, Bich Thuy was still well inside the legal half of the field, and the distance to the opponent’s deepest defender was so great that even a casual glance could confirm there was no offside.
