Coach Thawatchai Damrong-ongtrakul confirmed that the Thailand U22 team’s objective is to win the gold medal in men’s football at SEA Games 33, which requires beating Vietnam U22 in the final.
"Winning the championship is one of our targets. At present, we are following a step-by-step approach: finishing first in the group stage, winning the semifinal, and reaching the final. The next goal is to become champions.
Competing for the title against Vietnam U22 is very positive. They are a team that has clearly developed with high technical quality. For Thailand, facing a strong team ranked among Southeast Asia’s best is beneficial. To win, we must defeat strong teams.

As I have said from the beginning, Vietnam U22 has improved greatly. From when I was a player to becoming a coach, I have seen their progress from the national team to the SEA Games. Vietnam’s playing style is well-organized and very solid.
Personally, I focus more on the team’s system rather than individual players, although there are some notable names like number 7 Nguyễn Đình Bắc, a very strong player. Our preparations are made to face such an organized and quality team."
Regarding Thailand U22’s strengths, Mr. Thawatchai Damrong-ongtrakul said: "Thailand’s current strength lies in a full squad with evenly recovered fitness. I highly appreciate the team spirit. This is the fifth training camp in the team-building process. We have faced many teams from Southeast Asia and Asia.
Reaching the final to face Vietnam U22 is a challenge we are looking forward to. To win the SEA Games and become the number one team in Southeast Asia, we must surpass Vietnam U22.
