The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is swiftly addressing the situation after being heavily fined by FIFA for using unqualified players in three international friendly matches involving the national team.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) acted promptly after the World Football Federation (FIFA) issued penalties for breaching regulations concerning the use of ineligible players during a series of international friendly matches.
According to FIFA, the Disciplinary Committee held a meeting on December 12, 2025, chaired by Vice President Jorge Palacio. During this session, the committee determined that FAM violated Article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (2025 edition) by fielding an ineligible player in three Tier 1 international matches involving the Malaysian national team.
The affected matches include a 1-1 draw against Cape Verde at Cheras Stadium on May 29, 2025, a 2-1 victory over Singapore at Bukit Jalil Stadium on September 4, 2025, and a 1-0 win against Palestine at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on September 8, 2025. After review, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee annulled the results of these three matches and declared Malaysia to have lost 0-3 in all three games.
Besides overturning the results, FAM was fined 10,000 Swiss francs (over 300 million VND). This penalty is considered a significant blow to the Malaysian team, especially as they prepare for upcoming important international tournaments.
In response, FAM stated that it has promptly initiated legal measures to protect the national team’s rights. The association will submit a formal request to FIFA demanding a detailed explanation of the Disciplinary Committee’s decision before considering further actions.
“We will pursue this matter thoroughly to ensure fairness for the Malaysian national team,” a FAM representative affirmed.
The incident has attracted significant public attention in Malaysia, as the punishment not only impacts sporting results but also raises concerns about FAM’s player management procedures over recent times.
