Romano discusses Salah's potential winter transfer: a transfer fee must be paid; Klopp demands an apology first

As the Africa Cup of Nations begins, Salah must take a break from Liverpool for a while, which also allows time for the club, coaches, and players to reconcile. Italian transfer specialist Romano has spoken about the likelihood of Salah departing in the upcoming winter transfer period.

Romano stated that because Salah publicly criticized the club after the match, his relationship with Liverpool remains quite complicated. Saudi clubs have shown genuine interest in Salah, which is understandable since he is the top football star in the Arab world. Salah’s agent is actively exploring transfer options, but one thing is certain: Salah’s contract with Liverpool runs until 2027, with a year and a half remaining. If he wants to leave in the January 2026 window, a transfer fee must be paid to Liverpool.

Additionally, Liverpool’s manager Klopp insists that Salah should publicly apologize for his post-match criticism of the club. Only after this apology can further matters be addressed. Whether he stays or transfers, Salah must first apologize to the team.

Romano believes there is a possibility of Salah leaving in the winter window, with Saudi Arabia likely being his next destination. In his personal view, the rift between Salah and Liverpool is difficult to mend, so leaving might be a mutually beneficial solution—paying a transfer fee and parting on good terms. Salah will always remain a Liverpool legend.
