Before kickoff, this was considered a true test for Coach Kim Sang Sik’s squad. Both teams had won all their group stage matches and entered the semifinals as group leaders. Notably, the Philippines U22 was the only team yet to concede a goal in the tournament, while Vietnam U22 also had a solid defense, having allowed only one goal.
Right after the whistle, the Philippines U22 surprised by pushing their formation forward, controlling the midfield, and frequently using aerial balls to apply pressure. Nevertheless, Vietnam U22’s defense held firm, with goalkeeper Trung Kien staying focused and timely neutralizing dangerous situations.

From the middle of the first half, Vietnam U22 gradually regained control thanks to the speed and agility of Van Khang and Le Viktor on the wings. Dinh Bac and Minh Phuc each tried their luck with long-range shots, while the clearest chance came in the 40th minute when Le Viktor acrobatically volleyed inside the box after a pass from Van Khang but failed to score. Before halftime, Philippines U22’s goalkeeper Guimares also had to make a skillful save from Van Khang’s close-range shot.

In the second half, Vietnam U22 proactively pushed their line higher, increasing the pressure. Coach Kim Sang Sik repeatedly introduced Thanh Nhan, Thai Son, and Van Thuan to refresh the attack. Meanwhile, the Philippines U22 showed danger in counterattacks and aerial plays, notably Noah Leddel’s header narrowly missing the post in the 66th minute.
When the match seemed deadlocked, Vietnam U22’s resilience shone at the crucial moment. In the 88th minute, from an attack down the wing, Le Van Thuan rose powerfully to head the ball, breaking the deadlock. In added time at 90+2 minutes, Thanh Nhan took a free kick from a tight angle on the left flank, sending the ball straight into the net to seal the 2-0 victory.

This convincing win over a previously unbeaten defense allows Vietnam U22 to proudly step into the SEA Games 33 men's football final, continuing their quest for the prestigious gold medal.
