OFFICIAL: Coach Shin Tae-yong speaks out about returning to the Indonesia national team

Coach Shin Tae-yong has clearly addressed the issue of rejoining the Indonesia national team while the head coach position remains vacant. The most recent person to hold this role was Patrick Kluivert.

PSSI and Patrick Kluivert officially parted ways last October, shortly after Indonesia’s failure in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Up to now, PSSI is actively searching for a new coach. In this context, the name Shin Tae-yong has unexpectedly come up. In fact, many Indonesian fans hope that the Korean coach will return to lead the Garuda team.

According to Bola, amid these rumors, Shin Tae-yong has officially commented on the possibility of reuniting with the Indonesia national team. He shared that, so far, there have been no communications between him and PSSI. Coach Shin Tae-yong said this during an interview at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, on the evening of December 14. He stated: “I have not had any contact whatsoever with PSSI.”

Shin Tae-yong admitted that he often returns to Indonesia. During his time there, the Korean coach always feels comfortable and happy because he considers Indonesia his second home. He also believes Indonesian fans have never forgotten his contributions to the national team in the past.

Shin Tae-yong added: “Honestly, I feel very happy and grateful for this affection. I believe the fans have not forgotten me, and that means a lot to me from the bottom of my heart.”

Currently, Shin Tae-yong is a free agent and is not coaching any team. After being dismissed as Indonesia’s head coach in January 2025, he returned to South Korea to take the head coach role at Ulsan HD club. However, his tenure at Ulsan HD was short-lived. Less than two months after his appointment, he was fired on October 9, 2025.

Notably, the separation between Shin Tae-yong and Ulsan HD was quite turbulent, with reports of unrest in the locker room, especially a poor relationship between him and the players.
