Coach Arne Slot recently spoke about the future of striker Mohamed Salah after his impressive performance helped Liverpool defeat Brighton.
Mohamed Salah has returned to Liverpool's squad(although not starting) after being absent from the matchday squad against Inter Milan in the Champions League midweek fixture. Prior to that, he also did not start in the previous three Premier League matches. The Egyptian player shocked many by stating he felt "abandoned" by Liverpool and that his relationship with Arne Slot was strained.
However, after a conversation with the Dutch coach, Salah returned to the bench for the Brighton game. Due to Joe Gomez's early injury and substitution, Salah was brought on in the 26th minute. He assisted Liverpool's second goal, helping the Reds secure a 2-0 victory.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Arne Slot confirmed that the issues with Salah have been resolved and emphasized that the player will not leave during the January 2026 transfer window: "The reason he was not present in Milan recently was because of the interview. I have talked to Salah about everything. What we discussed in that conversation will remain confidential between us. What you see is all you know. He was included in the squad and was the first player I brought on.
As every fan hopes, including myself, in today's match. I believe he was not the only player walking around the pitch to thank the fans, because I think they deserve thanks from all of us. Now, Salah will participate in AFCON. I hope he performs well and during that time, we must play without him. Salah is a Liverpool player. After he returns, I want to use him whenever we need.”
Additionally, Slot expressed delight over Hugo Ekitike's "progress" after his brace for Liverpool against Brighton: "I see clear improvement in Ekitike and I also see this with all the new signings we brought in this summer. They all need to adapt to the Premier League and its intensity because they are still young. So far, Ekitike has done twice as much as he did at the start of the season.
