Công Phượng found the net in the latest friendly game for Trường Tươi Đồng Nai following his injury recovery.
During the break of the First Division and V-League for the SEA Games, teams are actively playing friendlies to maintain form and touch. On the afternoon of December 13, Trường Tươi Đồng Nai played a friendly against Văn Hiến University Club, a side considered much weaker.
Công Phượng returned with inspiration and quickly made an impact on the scoreboard. Notably, his goal was assisted by his close friend Minh Vương. Thanh Bình extended the lead to 2–0 with a beautiful combination before Alex Sandro sealed the friendly with a final 3–0 victory for Trường Tươi Đồng Nai.
Công Phượng was expected to continue shining in this year’s National First Division to help Trường Tươi Đồng Nai get promoted to the V-League after missing out twice. However, continuous injuries since the season started have prevented the Nghệ An-born striker from playing in all 9 matches so far this season.
This has been a major loss for the team, as Công Phượng is not only the main attacking threat but also considered the soul of Đồng Nai’s offensive play. His absence is one of the reasons the attack has not yet exploded as expected. The last official match Công Phượng played for Đồng Nai was in June during the promotion play-off last season.
Previously, there were reports that Trường Tươi Đồng Nai club arranged for Công Phượng to undergo a detailed injury examination in Singapore. The fact that Công Phượng could return to play this December is great news and proves that the former HAGL star has fully recovered from his injury.
After a year back in Vietnam, fans are eager to see Công Phượng wearing the familiar number 10 shirt on the field. Earlier in the 2024/2025 season, the former HAGL player wore number 70 when he first joined Trường Tươi Đồng Nai. That number also brought success, as Công Phượng scored 7 goals in the First Division.
